| | Auf diese Nachricht antworten! | Hi all, sorry for the english, but I do not know German...And I hope that you could help me... During a motorbike tours in the Grossglocknerstrasse I would like to stay a night in the Oberwalderhutte, but I will be there without the mountains equipments except the shoes that will be the treeking shoes.
I know that from the parking there is an easy road to do by walk, but after this road, how far is the Oberwalderhutte? I did the road last summer, but only until the end, where there was a lot of iced snow, so I do not know if the trekking shoes was enough or not...What do you think about (difficulty, etc.)? (consider that i'm used to do trakking in mountains!)
Do you have the phone number of Oberwalderhutte?
In case, do you have any other suggestions for hutte around Grossglocknerstrasse easy to reach?
/Carlo

Look at [externer Link] \ There you can find all huts driven by the german and the austrian alpine clubs. Below the map you'll find a list of all huts.
[externer Link] =3D> Oberwalder Hütte
I'm sorry I can't give you any information about the path, I've never been there.

| | Auf diese Nachricht antworten! | I will try to answer your questions. It will take about 3 hours from the car park at the end of the road(Adlersruhe). After 30 minutes you pass Hofmannshütte,a hut of the Alpine Clubs, too. For about 1 and a half hour the track runs across the glacier, normally harmless and easy to find. But it is a glacier. In the morning the track will be icy, in the afternoon the snow can become deep and wet and it will be more exhausting to you. I think you can risk it, if the weather is good and you have a second pair of socks with you, because the trekking shoes will not keep the water away.
Excuse my poor English, please !
Wolfgang Will
P.S. I dont know an alternative hut along the Grossglockner road that one could compare with Oberwalder.

| | Auf diese Nachricht antworten! | Thanks Wolfang, I hoped was necessary less time...hardly I will convince my friends! Do you know if it is possible to sleep in Hofmannshütte too?. I remeber this hutte, and I'm sure that is not comparable with Oberwalder, but it could be a fairly good alternative...
Thanks a lot/ Carlo

I just checked that Hofmannshütte is closed and has to be removed this year ! The alternative hut ist Glocknerhaus, but it is still along the road, some kilometers before you reach Franz-Josefs-Höhe !
