| | Auf diese Nachricht antworten! | Hi All,
I hope u.r.w. will forgive the crosspost, it seems relevant there too.
I don't have any first aid training at all, and recently had a bit of a sobering experience. Its really not a nice feeling to have nothing to offer in a situation like that (fortunately in my case there were other people around who were able to be more useful than me). I'd been meaning to do a first aid course for ages and not getting round to it.
I recently discovered (through a post on a web-based climbing forum, he [externer Link] ) that the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team run occasional 2 day 'mountain and outdoor' first aid courses.
"The courses are based at WMRT's headquarters near Penistone in the North of the Peak District (J35A of the M1). The course is run by full time first aid instructor and Woodhead team member Wayne Thackray of Blackhill Training, and has been accepted for all MLTE requirements for SPA, ML etc, and is also accredited by Snowsports Scotland."
The course costs 75 quid per person, which includes (basic - bring a mat/sleeping bag) accomodation at the Penistone HQ and dinner on the Saturday night. Seems like excellent value, particularly as the profits are going to a good cause (the MRT itself - currently looking to fund a new landrover).
Courses are confirmed for: 4-6 August 2006 and 22-24 Sept 2006, and both still have spaces available (though the September one is nearly full now).
I'm told there will be courses running in October and November too, the dates are yet to be decided.
I've signed up for the August course, I hear excellent things about it (on that other forum) and I'm really quite looking forward to it.
For details of the syllabus and course programme, to sign up, or for questions, please email cara(at)cri(dash)media(dot)com (That email address in munged, obviously.)
Alternatively post here and I'll pass it along. I hope that doesn't seem like spam, I'm pretty sure its ok with the charter for both groups.
Cheers Sean x

I was in that position some years ago when I saw a man face down on a factory floor, with a heart attack, and I did not know what to do, neither did anyone else. They phoned the Factory Nurse, but she got lost and arrived too late. He died :-(
I have taken First Aid courses twice since then and at a road accident did the right thing which happened to be nothing.
IMO ***everyone*** should have Basic First Aid training. -- Dave Fawthrop <dave hyphenologist co uk> Google Groups is IME the *worst* method of accessing usenet. GG subscribers would be well advised get a newsreader, say Agent, and a newsserver, say news.individual.net. These will allow them: to see only *new* posts, a killfile, and other goodies.

I reckon everyone should do first aid, even youngsters at school. Basic first aid and lifesaving skills should be part of the curriculum from when children first start school - you're never too young to learn how to call for help or to apply a simple dressing. -- To reply see 'from' in headers; lose the domain, and insert dots and @ where common sense dictates.
