The White Spider book query (or is it The Eiger Nordwand?)

I read a book once some many years ago that was in my local library.

It was about the early attempts on the Eiger Nordwand, and detailed the
attempts in pretty gripping manner, including all the stories of how
the various named parts got their names (story of Death Bivuoac for
example).

In my attempts to locate this book, the hot favourite I can find is The
White Spider.

The table of contents looks promising.

However, on the book I read, I'm sure I recall the main title as The
Eiger Nordwand, with a subtitle very similar to The First 35 Who Died
Climbing It.

Does this book ring any bells with anyone?
This has been bugging me for some time, as naturally the library has
lost that book and any reference to it.

Thanks

Sounds like the White Spider to me.
Even you previously read a similar book, the White Spider is excellent.

You can search the Alpine Club's Library catalogue online at

There is the 1938 Anderl Heckmair, "Um die Eiger-Nordwand" which you may
have read in translation.

The book that is more widely known is Heinrich Harrer's "The White
Spider", particularly since his work has been frequently republished
alongside his "Seven Years in Tibet" which was dramatised as a major
movie release.

Cheers,

Mike

'Eiger: Wall of Death' by Arthur Roth?
