The Pennine Way Site - Der Pennin-Weise Aufstellungsort

I'm playing with the idea of translating my site into German using a
translation program.

I'd appreciate a little feedback (in English please!) as to whether the
translation makes sense.

I've started with part of the font page he-

The full English version is he-

If it translates as complete rubbish (as I suspect it will) please say so!

The Pennine Way attracts thousands of walkers from Germany each year.

Many thanks for any help.

Do yourself a favor and delete the page as fast as possible.

It is quite funny. For example, your translation of "Challenging trail"
is "schwierige Hinter". In german, this means something like "difficult
bum" :-)

Hi David,

As Erik wrote: do yourself a favour and delete the "German" page ASAP!
I'm sorry to say so but the translation is partly ridiculous, partly
embarrassing, all in all hardly to understand! Of course it's not your
fault but that's the way cheap translation programs work.

OTOH: congrats to you for your fine Pennine Way website!

Best regards

Reinhard

Thanks guys - I've deleted it.

I'll have to look into a more professional translation!

Best wishes

Maybe re-translating into English (I did not try) gives you a rough
idea of what that sounds like.

For instance, the translation "Pennin-Weise" for "Pennine Way" means
something like "the Pennine method/habit". The word "way" has several
very different meanings in English, each of which has its own German
equivalent. I have learnt that translation software always reliably
picks the worst one :)

Thus, I read for the first time that Wainwright had to be undressed by
a trespassing National Park warden (that's the meaning of your German
translation).

Furthermore, since the German syntax in many cases is completely
different from the English, the structure of sentences is somewhat
funny (and hard to understand).

Trying to get through a masterpiece like this one, you suddenly
understand what professional translators get paid for :)

Thanks Volker - I'm glad I removed it then, otherwise the National Park
warden
may have sued me!

Thanks again for the help - I suspected the translation was next to useless
and you've all confirmed it!
