Hi all,
Can anyone tell me what the best / safest dates
are for trekking the Alpine Pass?
Does anyone know of a good personal webpage
explaining the risks, caveats, pitfalls and explaining
how to best plan the effort?

The passes differ in their opening times and, even with an
"official" time, you can get unseasonal snow falls. I don't try
that sort of thing any longer but I liked the Sierra Club
Totebook by William Reifsnyder "Foot-loose in the Swiss Alps".

There are hundreds of alpine passes, in the seven alpine countires.
They range from 500 to more than 4500 m and are tramac roads as well
as quite narrow footpathes.

I hike all summer from June to September on Alpine pass(es). Depending on
the year there is snow or no snow. I even saw snow falling in August there.
But if you are well equipped, you can pass without any problem.
